I thought I'd show you what I can see from my workshop window, I have to admit it's very easy to lose my concentration and take a rather long time to make anything, especially if the Little Owls are about.
This week I had a visit from Helen & Gina, who very kindly let me take lots of photos of them wearing Mary's Little Gems items. You'll see them all over the website, in the gallery and on several of the product pages to show you what items look like 'on'. As is usual at Howes Cottage, my visitors did not escape without being fed, this time with home made scones, cream and home grown raspberries. As you can see, I had to do some quality control tasting too.
I've been running this business for some years now, and I still never know what's going to happen next. Up until now I suppose I've sold three or four brooches a year, but now they're my best seller, and definitely what people are buying as gifts. This explains the photo - I had a major "brooching" day on Wednesday, resulting in a really good selection, and at good prices too. Also new this week are some lovely semi-precious stone necklaces, Murano Glass earrings, and some new rings too.
I know it doesn't look like work, and yes, it did involve home made scones, clotted cream and strawberries. However, the visit did have two purposes, to catch up with friends, and to have a good look at the online shop stock and come up with ideas to improve the website. It was really useful too - improvements have already been made If anyone else would be interested in spending a couple of happy hours for the same purpose please let me know. As you can see, Otto lost interest once the scones had gone!!
